Introducing Burton Group's Data Management Strategies (DMS) service

Burton Group today introduced a new research service, Data Management Strategies (DMS), which is focused on domains including:

  • Business intelligence (BI) -- including data mining, data warehousing, enterprise reporting, online analytical processing (OLAP), predictive analytics, and other BI topics
  • Data management -- e.g., data modeling, data integration, master data management, data governance, and more (you can download a complimentary DMS report on conceptual data modeling for a research sample)
  • Database management, including assessments of leading commercial and open source database management systems (DBMSs), and coverage of multiple database models (relational, XML, streaming, and others)
  • Data-related technologies and standards, such as XQuery, XML schema languages, and business domain data models

DMS is a full Burton Group research service, offering a stream of research publications along with customer dialogues and telebriefings. You can read more about the service details on the DMS home page. DMS is also closely aligned with other Burton Group research services, and with Burton Group's new IT1 offering.

The new DMS team will be at Burton Group's Catalyst events this year -- June in San Diego and October in Prague. I encourage you to explore the Catalyst agendas, if you're focused on enteprise data management topics, as we'll have several DMS-related sessions, including (in San Diego) a DBMS vendor panel with product strategists from the leading (traditional and open source) DBMS vendors.

This blog tracks DMS-related perspectives and activities. There's a companion feed for DMS publications and telebriefings, so this blog will be primarily focused on data-related market dynamics. We'll be sharing perspectives on data management-related vendor briefings, industry events, and general industry news.

In the next few posts, I'll explain why we felt the timing was right for Burton Group to offer a new service focused on all things data-related, introduce the DMS team, and outline some of the topics we believe will be most influential in the enterprise data management domain over the next few years.

We welcome your input -- if you have questions about the DMS service or suggestions about topics on which you'd like us to focus, please add comments to this or other posts in the DMS blog.
